Dr. Kim is a distinguished professor and Department Chairman in Ophthalmology at Yonsei University College of Medicine and an Ophthalmologist at Severance Hospital in Yonsei University Health System, Seoul, Korea. Dr. Kim is recognized globally for his expertise in granular corneal dystrophy, with over 140 authored peer-reviewed manuscripts on his research. He was the first to report Avellino Corneal Dystrophy (GCD2) as a contraindication to LASIK and subsequently that LASEK and PRK are also contraindicated. Dr. Kim performed molecular cell biology experiments on GCD2 and reported that the fibroblast from the cornea with GCD2 is suffering from oxidative stress. He is currently researching the pathophysiology of GCD2.
